Parents Protest at Vargas Llosa School in Marbella

Parents of students at the Vargas Llosa School in Marbella gathered this Thursday morning to protest against the proposed closure of one of the two pre-school lines for 3-year-olds. The parents expressed their deep uncertainty and distress over the situation. They are considering attending the city council meeting on Friday.

Public Complaint Leads to Action

Following a public complaint made on April 24, the parents took action this Thursday with a protest at the school gates. They are demanding that the second pre-school line for 3-year-olds, which is scheduled to be removed next school year, be maintained.

Parents Demand Second Line for Pre-Schoolers

María Romero, one of the affected mothers, recalled that during the open house day, they were assured that if there were more than 25 applications, the second line would be opened. However, she pointed out that there are 42 priority applications for 3-year-olds at the Vargas Llosa School, and they plan to remove it, leaving the school with only one classroom for this age group.

Concerns Over Limited Spaces for New Families

Out of the 25 places offered, 19 are assigned to students who already have siblings at the school or are children of school staff. Thus, the actual offer is only 6 places for new families. Romero, who lives in Xarblanca and whose daughter does not yet have a school for the next school year, expressed her deep uncertainty and distress over the situation.

Parents Association Calls for Solution

From the Parents Association (AMPA) La Florida, Jorge Gil explained that the final places will be granted on May 14, so he called for a solution. He also explained that not all families have a place, and some will have to go to another area of Marbella.

Protests to Continue

The protests will continue, and the AMPA announced that they are considering holding another protest at the city council gates during the regular plenary session on Friday.

Update on Cilniana Institute

Regarding the Cilniana Institute, which is being built next to the Costa del Sol Hospital and is a reference for the Trapiche Norte area, Gil said that the works are almost finished. He expressed hope that the institute will be ready by September.
