La Azucarera Institute in San Pedro Alcántara to Become an Autonomous Secondary Education Institute
The Andalusian Government has announced that the Compulsory Secondary Education (SESO) section of La Azucarera in San Pedro Alcántara will be transformed into a Secondary Education Institute (IES) for the next academic year (24/25), thus becoming an autonomous center. Until now, it was under the jurisdiction of the Vega del Mar IES.
Approval for Educational Improvement Measures in Costa del Sol
The Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training has approved various measures for the “improvement of educational offerings” in different municipalities of the Costa del Sol for the next academic year 24/25. One of these changes is the transformation of the current Compulsory Secondary Education (SESO) section of the Azucarera area of San Pedro de Alcántara into an IES. Therefore, it will become an autonomous center, as it has been dependent on the Vega del Mar IES since its inauguration.
Details of the New Autonomous Center
This center, inaugurated in September 2022, is designed for Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) with three lines for each course, in addition to having two specific classrooms. It does not offer a baccalaureate program, an improvement that does not seem to be on the horizon for the Andalusian Government at the moment.
New Institute Under Construction in Las Chapas
A new institute is being built in the Las Chapas area of the municipality, which will be named Cilniana. After many delays, the latest deadline given by the Government was that it would be ready during the second quarter of the current academic year, therefore by Easter week at the latest.
