From Classroom Assignments to Published Book: Students’ Micro-stories Against Gender Violence
The book, created from the micro-stories of students from the Guadaiza Institute in San Pedro Alcántara, has made a journey from being a language assignment to a published book. These are texts against gender violence that have been collected in the anthology “Echoing Voices”. The initiative also includes a short film called “The Woman and the Ogre”.
Book Launch Coincides with World Book Day
Coinciding with the celebration of World Book Day, the Trapiche del Guadaiza in San Pedro Alcántara hosted the presentation of the result of an educational project that has been growing steadily. The book, “Echoing Voices. Micro-stories against gender violence”, can now be purchased, for example, through Amazon for 4 euros.
From a Creative Writing Workshop to a Published Anthology
The book is the result of a creative writing workshop in the language subject with the 4th year ESO students of the Guadaiza Institute in San Pedro. The initial objective was to improve grades in an internal project of this class, developed by teacher Pilar Mármol. However, everything overflowed. The works were then displayed on cardboard on the walls of the educational center and, after the success, it was decided to publish an anthology.
Combining Writing, Equality Plan, and International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
The initiative combined writing, the equality plan, and the celebration of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. More than seventy students have been involved to merge creativity, literature, and social claim with a spectacular result.
Anthology of Micro-stories that “Move, Question, and Above All, Inspire”
The anthology has 82 pages with micro-stories that “move, question, and above all, inspire”, as stated on the back cover. “Each story, brief but profound, invites us to look beyond ourselves, to empathize with the stories of others and to recognize our ability to contribute to the construction of a more egalitarian society”, the book’s publicity points out.
Project Also Includes a Short Film
The project also includes a short film, which was screened during the presentation at the Trapiche de Guadaiza, called “The Woman and the Ogre”, based on one of the micro-stories. “Machismo violence leaves invisible scars on society. Raising our voice against this violence is not only a duty, but an essential step towards a more just and safe future for everyone”, it is pointed out.
