Marbella’s Socialist Spokesperson Criticizes Land Sale for Public Housing
Isabel Pérez, the spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group in the Marbella City Council, expressed her disappointment on Wednesday. She criticized the Popular Party and Mayor Ángeles Muñoz for repeating their “same old mistake” of selling land for public housing construction “instead of donating it.”
Call for Serious Commitment to Public Housing
Pérez urged the Popular Party to make a “serious” commitment to public housing access, given the “multitude of problems” in this area. She pointed out that it is currently the issue that most affects the residents of the municipality. She also vowed to continue denouncing the government team’s business at the expense of public housing, which she believes is unacceptable.
Concerns Over Access to Decent Housing
The councilwoman noted that many young people and employees from different areas cannot access decent housing. She reminded that the land where the new development is planned to be located in San Pedro Alcántara, will be sold for 2.8 million euros, which will go to the municipal coffers. It has also been announced that 840,000 euros will be provided to subsidize the buyers, leaving Mayor Muñoz with almost two million euros.
PSOE’s Stance on Housing
Pérez recalled that the PSOE has always advocated for housing that lowers prices through land donation, not its sale, unlike the Popular Party, which only seeks business and not to solve the problem. She also urged the mayor to make a firm commitment to this issue once and for all, as she sees that a proper housing policy that “covers the needs of Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara” has “never” been implemented.
Disappointing Housing Statistics
The data is “eloquent,” Pérez pointed out. To date, after almost fifteen years of Ángeles Muñoz as mayor of the municipality, only 107 protected homes have been built, a figure that is embarrassing for a mayor who has been in office for so long. She concluded by saying that the mayor is only interested in the propaganda of the draws and then doesn’t care if the awardees can afford the housing at exorbitant prices.
