PSOE Calls for Free Interurban Transport in Costa del Sol
The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in Costa del Sol has requested the Andalusian Government to make interurban transport in the region free of charge. According to the party’s spokesperson in the Commonwealth, Víctor Navas, this would allow many residents of Benahavís, Manilva, Casares, and even Estepona to travel to their hospital for free.
Navas Advocates for Free Interurban Transport
Víctor Navas, the socialist spokesperson, has asked the Andalusian Government for free interurban transport. This measure aligns with the policies of the previous socialist administration in Benalmádena, where he served as mayor. He reiterated that this would enable many residents of Benahavís, Manilva, Casares, and even Estepona to travel to their hospital for free.
Criticism of Popular Party’s Infrastructure Plans
Navas also criticized the Popular Party’s mayors for advocating that the government should spend 8 billion euros on the General State Budget to create a train that would not connect their municipalities or improve mobility. He argued that a commuter train, which could be implemented in phases, would be a more effective solution. One of these phases could start in Mijas and extend to the rest of the Costa del Sol.
Socialists Defend Commuter Train for All Municipalities
“We socialists advocate for a commuter train that stops in all municipalities of the Costa del Sol, serving all coastal residents, unlike the Popular Party, which is not aware of the problems this region faces,” Navas stated. He also criticized the mayor of Benalmádena for not taking any action to make the commuter train stop in Nuevo Torrequebrada a reality. This initiative has the support of the previous municipal administration and even the then Minister of Development who personally visited the area. However, we are still waiting for Mayor Lara to decide on one of the three options on the table,” he concluded.
