Isabel Pérez and Enrique Ruiz, PSOE Secretary General of San Pedro, Call for Improved Connectivity

Isabel Pérez, spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group, announced on Wednesday that the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) will urge the People’s Party (PP) to undertake necessary improvements. The goal is to facilitate the connection between San Pedro and Nueva Andalucía via the Picaza Lane, a proposal initiated by local residents.

Residents Highlight Daily Commuting Challenges

Pérez pointed out that in February, a group of residents contacted the PSOE of San Pedro and the Municipal Group to express the difficulty of daily commuting from La Campana and Nueva Andalucía to San Pedro. The problem worsens during sports celebrations or events organized at the La Caridad estate, she added.

Current Solutions Deemed Inadequate

The Picaza Lane and the Tirso de Molina bridge are the two options residents have for commuting. However, Pérez stated that this solution is no longer valid. She criticized the neglect and lack of foresight of the PP government of Marbella City Council, which continually postpones addressing this issue seriously and definitively. This problem affects more than 16,000 residents who travel in these areas.

City Council Accused of Neglecting Infrastructure

Pérez further noted that instead of seeking a definitive solution and making a serious investment to eradicate this problem, the City Council only resurfaces the Picaza Lane and the Tirso de Molina Bridge year after year. This approach does not address or solve the problem of reduced mobility capacity of both roads.

PP Government’s Inaction Over 15 Years

She pointed out that the PP government team has had fifteen years to solve this problem, further evidence of the traffic chaos they have plunged San Pedro de Alcántara and Nueva Andalucía into.

PSOE Proposes Motion for Necessary Actions

Therefore, the proposal we make with this motion is to urge the City Council to initiate the necessary procedures to carry out this project. This is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the Marbella City Council, and for this reason, it collects taxes, Pérez concluded.
