Security to be the Highlight of the 9th Mountain Race
The 9th edition of the Sierra Blanca Mountain Race will take place in Marbella this Saturday. The event has become a staple in the municipality’s sports calendar. This year, over 800 runners have registered to participate, and the event will also feature 150 volunteers. The race will kick off at 8:00 am at the Marbella Promenade.
Over 800 Athletes to Participate in the Sierra Blanca Mountain Race
The 9th Sierra Blanca Mountain Race, scheduled for Saturday, February 10, will bring together more than 800 athletes in the city. Lisandro Vieytes, the councilor of the sector, presented the race today, which will feature athletes from over 24 countries worldwide and will be contested in several categories.
Various Race Categories to be Featured
Among the races to be held this Saturday, the Destroyer stands out with a distance of 42.2 kilometers; the Leg Breaker of 28.5 kilometers, and the Deceptive of 12 kilometers. Distances of 12 kilometers will also be covered in the ‘Youth’ and ‘Hiking’ categories, and, as a novelty, an inclusive mode race will be held.
Emphasis on Safety Measures for the Race
The councilor has also emphasized the safety measures of the race, which will include 150 volunteers, in-race medical coverage, 12 members of the S.O.S. Cardio Protection club, and a coordinator from the same entity, three ambulances with advanced life support, an all-terrain vehicle, and rescue drones, as well as personal geolocation coverage through a mobile app.
Environmentally Sustainable Race
The race director, Francisco Viegas, explained that the race, which will start at the Promenade and end at the Vigil de Quiñones park, is “completely sustainable, with additional measures to care for the environment both before and after the race.”
First of Three Mountain Events This Month
He also announced that this mountain event is the first of three scheduled for this month, with the ‘I Marbella Epic Trail’ (February 17) and ‘Sierra Blanca Rangers’ (February 24) to follow.
