Inaugural Launch at Puerto Banús

Last weekend, the picturesque Puerto Banús witnessed the inaugural stage of the New Nordic Cup regatta. This event marks a significant step in extending the sailing season while fostering a close-knit community of sailing enthusiasts from northern Europe. The TRY SAIL club played host to this prestigious event, featuring five teams with 25 skilled sailors from Finland, Sweden, and Norway. The competition was fierce, but a mixed team of Norwegian and Finnish sailors clinched the first place, showcasing their exceptional maritime skills.

Global Participation and Competitive Spirit

Interestingly, while the majority of participants are based in Costa del Sol, one team undertook the journey from Oslo, indicating the event’s growing international appeal. The organizers emphasized adherence to the rules of professional sailing, a crucial element in preserving the event’s competitive and professional essence.

Marbella: A Premier Sailing Destination

Denis Kotlyarov, the visionary behind TRY SAIL, expressed his ambition to establish Marbella as a top-tier, year-round sailing destination. Recognizing the significant role sailing holds in the Nordic countries, the Nordic Cup was envisioned as an annual affair aiming to attract over 15 teams per stage. This initiative not only promotes Marbella’s nautical capabilities but also enhances its reputation as a global sailing hub.

Future Horizons

Looking forward, the Nordic Cup promises to be more than just a one-time spectacle. The next stages are already on the calendar, set for February 3-4 and April 6-7 next year, promising even more thrilling sailing action and international participation.
