Marbella’s View: Mayor Announces Approval of Urban Planning Schemes by 2027
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz of Marbella has announced that the Municipal General Planning Scheme (PGOM) and the Urban Planning Scheme (POU) will be approved and in force within her term, that is, before 2027. She presents this as an achievement, despite nearly a decade having passed since she returned to the mayor’s office following the 2017 censure motion.
Mayor Participates in Informational Breakfast with Business Sector
The mayor participated in an informational breakfast this Friday, organized by CIT Marbella, which brought together about a hundred attendees from the business sector. She emphasized that “all indicators show growth of the city at all levels”. She pointed out that “investment has doubled compared to 2019”, and that the tourism model is being consolidated around excellence and breaking seasonality.
Planning a City for the Future
Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of “designing a city for the next 20 or 30 years that meets future needs”. In this regard, the mayor recalled that “we knew how to take advantage of the approval of the new Law for the Promotion of the Sustainability of the Territory of Andalusia (LISTA)”.
Public Consultation for PGOM
Regarding the PGOM, she announced that after responding to the allegations presented to the document, a second public consultation period will open in March. “Most of the suggestions will be accepted and we understand that, to have even more plurality and to have the opinion of all sectors, the document must be presented again,” she said.
Final Approval of PGOM by End of Year
This will be an intermediate step before its final approval, which the mayor has set for the end of the year. In parallel, the POU, which details the uses and qualifications in urban land, is being processed. Currently, the progress of this planning tool is in the public consultation process to receive suggestions.
Initial Approval of POU by 2025
The forecast, as explained by the mayor, although never fulfilled, is that at the beginning of 2025 it will be initially approved and, definitively, within this term, that is, before 2027. “Some sectoral reports depend on other administrations but we will get involved one hundred percent to achieve this commitment,” she concluded.
2010 Urban Planning Scheme Annulled
The 2010 Urban Planning Scheme (PGOU) was annulled by the Supreme Court in November 2015 and Ángeles Muñoz returned to the mayor’s office, after a censure motion, in the summer of 2017. Since then, she has been unable to provide the municipality with new urban planning.
