Imminent Demolition of Antonio Lorenzo Cuevas Municipal Stadium in Marbella
The Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, announced on Friday that the demolition of the old Lorenzo Cuevas Stadium is imminent. She also mentioned that the approval of new urban regulations will facilitate private investment for this facility, which will include a hotel area and even a commercial zone.
Mayor’s Statement on New Football Stadium Construction
In response to journalists’ questions, Ángeles Muñoz commented on the construction of a new football stadium during a meeting organized by CIT Marbella on Friday. Regarding the demolition of the old stadium, she stated that it would happen immediately.
No Current Bids for Demolition
As of today, there are no ongoing tenders to hire a company to demolish the facility, so the process cannot be expedited. The mayor may have been referring to the initiation of this process, but not its execution. It’s worth noting that on July 14, 2022, Muñoz said the demolition would take place in September 2023, which never happened.
Importance of Changes in Urban Regulations
The mayor also spoke about the importance of changes in urban regulations, previously explained by Marbella24horas, to make the stadium possible. “They are already published and will provide coverage for this football stadium to become a major sports facility,” she said.
New Stadium to Include Parking, Residential, Hotel, and Commercial Zones
She added that the new regulations will allow the stadium to have parking, residential, hotel, and even commercial zones, to make the project viable. These are the mayor’s latest statements on this matter, which do not hold much weight, as all previous ones have not been fulfilled.
