Dean Huijsen Makes Debut with Spain’s Under-21 Team
Marbella-born defender Dean Huijsen made his debut with the Spanish under-21 team this Thursday at the tender age of 18. The Roma center-back played the entire second half in his first match with Spain, a game in which Santi Denia’s team suffered a defeat against Slovakia. Huijsen’s performance in his debut was commendable.
Huijsen Chooses Spain Over Netherlands
This Thursday marked Huijsen’s opportunity to debut with Spain’s under-21 team, forgoing the Netherlands team with which he had previously played in lower categories. The center-back, who has been raised in Marbella since moving from Amsterdam with his family at the age of five, was one of the ten changes introduced by selector Santi Denia after the halftime break in the match against Slovakia.
Huijsen’s Impressive Debut
Huijsen, at 18 years old, left a good impression in his debut, proving himself as a solid defender with excellent ball distribution. Several of the Spanish team’s attacking plays in the second half originated from his boots. Despite his impressive personal performance on the Chapín (Jerez de la Frontera) pitch, Huijsen’s debut did not result in a victory. The match had already reached halftime with Slovakia leading by a narrow margin.
Spain’s Under-21 Team Faces Defeat

In an isolated action, Slovakia managed to score the second goal of the match, sealing Spain’s under-21 team’s defeat.
