Government to Tender Projects for Beach Stabilisation in Marbella and San Pedro
The national government has announced plans to tender projects aimed at stabilising the beaches of Marbella and San Pedro with new breakwaters in the coming year. This was revealed by Ángel González, the director for Malaga’s coasts department, during a recent meeting with Espigones Emergidos, an association established to advocate for measures to halt beach erosion.
Residents and Businesses Express Concerns, Protests Not Ruled Out
Despite the government’s plans, concerns persist among residents and businesses. Miguel Lima, the representative of the association, has indicated that protests are still a possibility. The coasts department has confirmed that a report has been forwarded to Madrid and is currently awaiting approval.
Additional Measures Planned to Combat Beach Erosion
In addition to the breakwater projects, the government has plans for dredging at Cabopino and La Bajadilla ports and sand replenishment. While the timelines for these projects are yet to be clarified, the association remains optimistic about their implementation.
Venus Beach Breakwater Project Rejected
One area of particular concern for the association is Venus beach. A breakwater project proposed by the town hall for this area was turned down by the coasts department. The association continues to monitor the situation closely.
