Andalucía’s Largest Free Skatepark Opens in Marbella
A state-of-the-art skatepark, the largest of its kind in Andalucía, has been unveiled to the public this week. The project, which was designed by industry experts and funded with an investment of 1.6 million euros, took 11 months to complete. The skatepark is situated in the La Florida area, north of the A-7 motorway, adjacent to the Marbella entrance via Avenida del Trapiche and the bus station.
Mayor and Councillors Visit the New Public Space
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz, along with councillors Diego López and Lisandro Vieytes, visited the site on Wednesday, 10th April. They were greeted by a group of eager young people, who were excited to be the first to use the new public space. The skatepark spans a total of 6,600 square metres and is divided into three sports areas and a fourth recreational area, complete with shaded spots and street furniture.
Skatepark: A Great Sports Facility for the Community
The councillor expressed that the location was ideal for a sports facility that would serve not only the local youth but also those from the wider Malaga province. The park is equipped for various sports including skateboarding, BMX, roller skating, and scooter riding. The grand opening event is scheduled for Saturday, 20th April.
World Champion BMX Rider Advises on Skatepark Design
The design of the skatepark was influenced by the advice of BMX world champion Rubén Alcántara. The park is divided into three distinct areas, each equipped with necessary features such as pools, ledges, steps, handrails, and ramps. The vibrant design of the park, created by Malaga company Play in Colors, is another highlight.
Skatepark Operating Hours and Other Locations
The skatepark is open from Monday to Thursday and Sundays from 9am until 10pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 9am until 11pm in winter (from 1 October to 31 May) and from 9am until 12am every day in summer (from 1 June to 30 September). This new addition joins the existing skateparks in San Pedro Alcántara and Bellohorizonte Park.
Revitalization of Previously Unused Land
The development of the Trapiche Norte site involved the transformation of land that was previously used for the storage of municipal vehicles and material collection. This project has not only provided a new recreational space for the community but also enhanced the use of previously underutilized land.
