Marbella Firefighters Celebrate Patron Saint’s Day with Floral Tribute

The Marbella Fire Department celebrated their patron saint, San Juan de Dios, on Friday, March 8. The day was marked with various activities, including the traditional awarding of medals and distinctions. Among the recipients were members who responded to the earthquake in Morocco last September.

Firefighters Praised for Exceptional Work in the Past Year

The celebration highlighted the work carried out by the firefighters over the past year, with nearly 2,200 interventions. This figure was noted as the highest in recent years. Marbella’s Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, praised the firefighters as examples of courage, temperance, and initiative, particularly during exceptional times such as the pandemic, forest fires, and international humanitarian crises.

City’s Gratitude and Pride for Firefighters’ Heroic Efforts

Muñoz expressed the city’s immense gratitude and pride for the heroic work of the firefighters, who prioritize the safety of others over their own in emergency situations. She mentioned that 31 new agents have been added to the force in the last four years, but did not specify the number of retirements, making it difficult to determine the current state of the workforce. She also mentioned a restructuring of the command scale with ten corporals and two sergeants.

Recognition for Long-Serving Firefighters and Humanitarian Efforts

During the event, recognitions were given to firefighters who have served for twenty years, those retiring from professional activity, and those who have participated in humanitarian tasks. Antonio Medina and Sergio Hernández, who went to Morocco to assist in rescue efforts after the earthquake last September, were among those recognized.

Day’s Events Began with Mass and Floral Offering

The day’s events began with a mass at the Church of the Incarnation at 10:00 am, followed by a floral offering at the Chapel of San Juan de Dios.
