Unemployment Rate Drops in Marbella’s Seaside Restaurant
In the coastal town of Marbella, the unemployment rate has seen a significant decrease during April, a trend that has been consistent over the years. The rate has dropped to levels not seen since 2008, marking the lowest unemployment rate for this month in the past 16 years. Furthermore, this is the first time the number of unemployed individuals has fallen below 8,500 during this period. Notably, the Easter holiday was not celebrated this time around.
Third Consecutive Decrease in Unemployment in Marbella
This marks the third consecutive decrease in unemployment in Marbella, following the usual cycle linked to seasonality, after the last increase that occurred in January. The data for April is positive and needs to be contextualized considering that Easter was not celebrated this time, which was in March, but the impact of that holiday period is still felt.
Permanent Hiring Continues to Show Excellent Figures
Permanent hiring continues to show excellent figures, significantly above the national average. April ended with 8,400 people registered as job seekers at the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE) offices, which is under the jurisdiction of the Junta. This is 336 less than the previous month of March, with a percentage drop of 3.84%. This is the best figure for April since 2008 and the first time since then that it has dropped below 8,500 unemployed in this month.
Comparison with Previous Years
The decrease cannot be compared with the previous year, as Easter was celebrated then, which always generates more employment. The last time April did not host this religious and tourist holiday was in 2018, and then the drop was 727 people, so the current one is half. Of the total unemployed left by April, 3,233 are men (down 121 from March) and 5,167 are women (down 215). The year-on-year variation shows that there are currently 455 fewer unemployed than just a year ago (down 5.14%). Compared to before the pandemic, there are 2,496 fewer unemployed than in March 2019.
Positive Hiring Data in Marbella
Regarding hiring, the data is also positive in Marbella. During April, 5,027 contracts were made, which is 636 more than in March. However, it is 619 less than a year ago, then with Easter. Of the total, 3,587 were permanent (71.35%), 453 more than the previous month. The rest of the hires (1,440) were temporary.
