Announcement of the 11th Edition of the Short Story Contest with the Theme “Paradises”
The Marbella Activa Association, in collaboration with the Fuerte Foundation, Hidralia, La Ermita Workshops, and Lima Hotel, has announced the 11th edition of their short story contest. This year’s theme is “Paradises”. The contest, which also includes a special category for young people in the municipality, aims to promote literature and writing.
Contest Open to All Residents of the European Union
The contest is open to anyone residing in the European Union, although the entries must be written in Spanish. The submission period for the works will be from February 5 to March 31, 2024.
Special Category for Young People from Marbella
In this edition, there is a category specifically for young people aged 15 to 18 from Marbella. The new theme of the contest is “Paradises”.
Prizes Sponsored by the Fuerte Foundation and La Ermita Workshops
The main sponsor of the general category is the Fuerte Foundation, which is providing the first and third prizes. The first prize is a cash award of 1,000 euros, and the third prize is a two-night weekend stay for two people at any of the Fuerte Hotels establishments. The second prize, 400 euros in cash, is sponsored by the local company La Ermita Workshops.
Special Category Prizes and Literary Workshop
For the special category, aimed at young people from the municipality of Marbella and sponsored by the company Hidralia, the prize consists of two cash awards of 300 euros and 100 euros for the first and second winning stories respectively. In addition, a four-day literary workshop will be conducted by poet and writer Alejandro Pedregosa for the top 15 finalists.
Publication of the Best Stories
As usual, a book will be published in both print and electronic versions featuring the 12 best finalist stories from this 11th edition (10 from the general category and 2 from the special category). This edition will be titled “The Stories of ’24”.
Jury Composed of Renowned Professionals
The jury is composed of renowned professionals such as poet and novelist Alejandro Pedregosa, Francisco Javier Moreno, Doctor of Art History, Catalina Urbaneja, historian and writer, and Sara Roma, literary critic and Language and Literature teacher. They will be responsible for analyzing the literary quality of the texts, creativity, and alignment of the story with the contest’s theme of “Paradises”.
Contest Coordination and Award Ceremony
The contest coordinator is Javier Lima Molina, promoter of this contest and co-founder of Marbella Activa. After the jury’s decision, which will be made public on the Marbella Activa website, the final award ceremony for the winners and finalists is scheduled to take place in late May or early June 2024 at the Lima Hotel in Marbella, the new sponsor of the contest.
