Water Pressure Reduction in Marbella to Combat Drought Effects

The Western Costa del Sol Commonwealth has announced that starting next week, there will be a reduction in water pressure as a measure to mitigate the effects of the drought. This will be implemented by local operators, Hidralia and Acosol in Marbella, to alleviate the situation of the reservoir as much as possible.

Coordinated Drought Measures Across Municipalities

The drought measures will be implemented in a coordinated manner, although in municipalities like Fuengirola, they have already been implemented weeks ago. The Western Costa del Sol Commonwealth announces that the water supply in the region will be regulated, a task that will be carried out by local operators.

Pressure Reduction to Comply with Restrictions

Starting from Wednesday, February 21, the announced measure is the reduction of pressure to comply with the restrictions. This will be done “gradually and generally” in all municipalities of the region, which are supplied by the Concepción reservoir.

Possible Limitations on Water Consumption

According to the information provided, there may be limitations on consumption that will coincide with night-time periods, approximately between 00:00 and 6:00 every day of the week except Saturdays. During this time, there may be homes and commercial premises that do not have a water supply, mainly buildings that lack a cistern, but also those located in high and remote areas from the main network. The restoration of the supply will be carried out progressively from 6:00 in the morning.

Water Consumption Limit Reduced to 160 Liters Per Person Per Day

The last decision made by the Andalusian Drought Committee was to limit to 160 liters per inhabitant per day throughout the province of Malaga, when until now the limit was 200 liters per inhabitant per day. Through these new measures, it is intended to adjust to the new line marked by this committee.

Western Costa del Sol Region in Exceptional Drought and Severe Shortage Situation

The region of the Western Costa del Sol is in a situation of exceptional drought and severe shortage following the order of the Drought Commission of the Junta de Andalucía, published in the BOJA of last October 30. This has meant that since then, citizen awareness and prohibitive measures have been established that are included in the drought decree, preventing the irrigation with drinking water of public and private parks and gardens, irrigation of golf courses, public and private washings, filling and refilling of swimming pools, vehicle cleaning (except authorized establishments), fountains and lakes without a closed water circuit or public showers and fountains.
