DegustaCasares Food and Cultural Fair: A Feast for the Senses
The DegustaCasares food and cultural fair is set to take place in the quaint village of Casares, located on the western side of Malaga province, on the weekend of 20th and 21st April.
Gazpacho Competition: A Celebration of Traditional Flavours
One of the main attractions of the two-day event is a gazpacho competition, where attendees can sample a variety of flavours of the traditional cold soup. The competition will be held on Saturday, promising a delightful culinary experience for all.
Sunday’s Star: ‘Jamon’
On Sunday, ‘jamon’ takes centre stage, with professional ham cutters showcasing their skills. Their finely sliced ham will be available for purchase at affordable prices, as stated by Ángeles Fernández, president of the CIT. The CIT is collaborating with the town hall to organise these events.
More than Just Food: Tapas and Cultural Experiences
In addition to the gazpacho and ‘jamon’ experiences, the fair will also feature the usual tapas tour, complete with a competition for the bar or restaurant serving the best tapas. Mayor of Casares, Juan Luis Villalón, emphasised that the fair aims to showcase the value of local gastronomy, identity, and heritage.
Hands-On Learning and Live Entertainment
Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about honey gathering, cheese making, and traditional crafts like ‘pleita’ (esparto grass, pita or palm). They can also delve into the secrets of ornithology. The fair will host local fandango dancing exhibitions, sheep shearing demonstrations, children’s activities, and talks about the history of Casares.
Music and Merriment at Paseo de la Carrera
The fair will be held on and around Paseo de la Carrera. Alongside the food and cultural activities, attendees can enjoy live music performances by Compás Flamenco, Al Liquidoi, and the Duo Latidos.
