Major Drug Bust in Marbella Linked to Mocro Maffia
In a significant operation, the National Police have apprehended a criminal gang with strong ties to the Mocro Maffia, also known as the Moroccan mafia. The arrest occurred while the gang was in the process of transferring nearly 900 kilograms of cocaine to a van in a Marbella shopping centre car park. The gang’s plan was to distribute the narcotics throughout Europe.
Investigation Unveils Drug Smuggling Operation
The investigation into this criminal activity began in August 2024. The police were alerted to an organisation that was smuggling drugs in containers from Ecuador, with the Algeciras Port serving as the entry point. This method allowed the gang to cut costs and maximise profits. The National Police worked in conjunction with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) during the operation.
Links to Europe’s Most Feared Organisation
The suspects were identified and confirmed to have connections with the Mocro Maffia, considered the most feared organisation in Europe. The members of this mafia are Dutch and Belgian nationals of Moroccan descent. The Costa del Sol was chosen by the recipients of the drug stash as their meeting location.
Final Stages of Operation and Arrests
Towards the end of the operation, the police discovered that the recipients of the cocaine shipment were travelling to Marbella in two vehicles: one van carrying the drugs and a high-end vehicle serving as a lookout. The police then surprised five individuals in the shopping centre car park in Marbella and arrested them. All the arrested individuals have been remanded in custody by the court.
International Arrest Warrants and Seizures
In addition to the arrests, three international arrest warrants have been issued for members of the organisation, including one of the leaders, whose whereabouts remain unknown. The investigation also led to the seizure of 759 packages of high-purity cocaine, weighing 873 kilograms, 5,690 euros in cash, 12 mobile phones (some encrypted), and three high-end vehicles.
