Bank Cleaner Arrested for Alleged Theft of 16,000 Euros
A cleaner working at a Marbella bank branch has been apprehended by the National Police for allegedly pilfering a total of 16,000 euros from the office’s cash desk over several days. The suspect was an external cleaner at the BBVA branch on Calle Serenata.
Security Cameras Capture Theft
The thefts, which were recorded by the branch’s security cameras, occurred during the first fortnight of March. However, it wasn’t until 18 March that the bank staff noticed the missing cash during a routine check of the cash drawer.
Local Police Investigate the Case
Upon discovering the discrepancy, the authorities were alerted and the theft group of the Marbella Local Police headquarters took over the investigation. The officers were able to confirm that the cleaner was indeed the alleged thief.
Theft Occurred During Early Morning Hours
The cleaner reportedly committed the thefts between 8am and 8.30am, taking advantage of the absence of cashier staff at the desk while she was mopping the floor. This allowed her to steal as much as 16,000 euros, according to sources close to the case.
Arrest and Further Investigation
Following the investigation, the police arrested the cleaner. Further investigation revealed that the woman had undergone beauty treatments at a clinic a few days after the last theft. The treatments cost over 1,400 euros, leading investigators to suspect that she may have used the stolen money to pay for them.
