February 21, 2025

Arrest of Mónica Cervera, Renowned Malaga-Born Actress

On Friday, 21 February 2025, Mónica Cervera, a 49-year-old actress from Malaga, was arrested by the National Police in Marbella. The arrest followed a judicial complaint against the actress, who has been reportedly living on the streets of the Costa del Sol town for an extended period.

Charges Against the Goya Film Awards Nominee

Cervera, who is recognized for her roles in the film Crimen Ferpecto (The Perfect Crime) and the series La Que Se Avecina, is facing a pending charge from a criminal court in Malaga. The charge is related to her alleged involvement in a property crime. Following her arrest, she was handed over to the courts and subsequently remanded in custody.

Cervera’s Current Situation

Since her arrest, Cervera has been held in the women’s wing of the Alhaurín de la Torre prison. Her current situation is a stark contrast to her previous life as a celebrated actress.

Cervera’s Connection with Director Ramón Salazar

Cervera has had a close professional relationship with Malaga director Ramón Salazar. She starred in his multi-award-winning short film Hongos and accompanied him in his directorial debut, Piedras (Stones), which was selected for the Berlinale. They also collaborated on the musical 20 Centímetros (20 Centimetres), which won the critics’ prize at the Malaga Festival.

Cervera’s Acting Career and Recent Disappearance from the Screen

Cervera’s breakthrough came with the black comedy Crimen Ferpecto (The Perfect Crime), which earned her a Goya nomination in 2005. She later appeared in the series Con Dos Tacones, but her on-screen appearances dwindled over the last decade. She briefly resurfaced in a few episodes of La Que Se Avecina between 2013 and 2016.
