After making a name for herself in the lower categories of the Spanish basketball team, Carla Viegas faced the challenge this season of playing in the second most important competition in the sport, the United States University League (NCAA). As part of the Florida State team, Viegas has participated in 24 games since the start of the season, delivering some of her best performances in the recent match against Pittsburgh.
Viegas Crosses the Atlantic to Join Florida State
A star in the lower categories of the Spanish basketball team, Carla Viegas faced the challenge this season of crossing the Atlantic Ocean to join the Florida State team. In doing so, she took a significant step in her career by landing on the doorstep of the WNBA, the most important women’s competition in the world. Viegas made the leap from the Women’s Challenge League with CAB Estepona to a full team in the United States University League (NCAA). Viegas Makes Her Debut with Florida State
Her debut with her new club took place on November 6, 2023, in a match against Charleston. In her debut, Viegas played for 25 minutes, scoring nine points and capturing two rebounds. These nine points were from the three-point line, thus confirming one of her greatest strengths. Since then, she has continued to accumulate minutes, playing a total of 24 games since her debut, averaging 13 minutes per game and five points. These are respectable numbers for a newcomer.
Viegas’s Role Grows More Significant with Each Game
However, as the season progresses, Viegas’s role within Florida State becomes increasingly significant, as confirmed by her participation in her most recent match, played on February 8, 2024, against Pittsburgh. In this match, Viegas played a total of 21 minutes, scoring 17 points and capturing two rebounds. Of these 17 points, 15 were thanks to her accuracy in three-pointers (she scored 5 out of 7 shots). This is her highest score this season. Carla Viegas also added an assist and three steals against Pittsburgh, these being her best statistics this season in both aspects.
