Woman Faces Trial in Malaga for Alleged Arson

A woman is set to appear in a Malaga court this week, accused of instigating two separate fires in Marbella back in 2019. The first fire led to the evacuation of a residential development and also impacted the A-7 toll motorway. The second fire occurred in a nearby forest area. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, although a police officer needed medical attention due to smoke inhalation.

No Property Damage, But Significant Extinguishing Costs

While no property was damaged in the fires, the cost of extinguishing the blaze on the residential estate exceeded 67,000 euros. The woman is alleged to have started the fires deliberately. The first fire, which took place in August 2019, affected 18.5 hectares of development land in the Camino Cristo de los Molinos and also reached the AP-7 toll motorway.

Second Fire Spread Over Forest and Agricultural Land

The second fire, which the suspect is accused of starting in September 2019, spread across forest and agricultural land in the Altos de Marbella area, resulting in two separate outbreaks. The cost of extinguishing this fire amounted to 33,000 euros.

Prosecutor’s Office Accuses Woman of Multiple Crimes

The prosecutor’s office has charged the woman with arson, a minor injury crime, and a forest fire crime. There is a possibility that a plea bargain could reduce her sentence. The prosecutor’s initial conclusions suggest that the woman started the fires intentionally.
