Marbella Taxi Drivers Aid Ukrainian Refugees
A group of taxi drivers from Marbella have recently returned from a mission to the Polish border, where they delivered supplies to Ukraine and transported refugees to safety. The drivers embarked on their journey last week, with each taxi loaded with food and medical supplies generously donated by the residents of Estepona and Mijas.
Rescue Mission Picks Up 34 Refugees
The convoy successfully picked up 34 refugees during their mission. Four of these individuals are set to travel to France, while the remainder will settle in Madrid. Notably, the group also rescued a dog and a cat, beloved pets of two of the Ukrainian refugees.
Charitable Organizations Support the Operation
The operation was a collaborative effort, organized by Aguja Solidaria, a charity established to assist people during the pandemic, Taxi Marbella, and the Rotary Club of San Pedro Alcantara.
Taxi Drivers Show Solidarity with Ukraine
The taxi drivers have demonstrated their support for Ukraine in a tangible way. Maria Jose, the president of Aguja Solidaria, revealed that financial support has been extended to the convoy. She stated that if the refugees need to stop and stay in hotels en route, the charity will cover the costs.
Taxistas Solidarios Association Lends a Hand
The Taxistas Solidarios association, known for its charitable work, also aided the taxi drivers’ efforts. The association, which distributed masks made by local seamstresses throughout the Costa del Sol during the pandemic, was undeterred by the rising petrol prices. Jose, Javi, and Nico from the Taxistas Solidarios association spent days planning the long journey, stating that despite the high cost of diesel and the long distance, the mission was worth it.
