Firefighters Battle Wildfire in Spain’s Costa del Sol
In a heroic effort, hundreds of firefighters are risking their lives to control a wildfire that is raging across the hills outside Benahavis, above Spain’s Costa del Sol. The apocalyptic images of burning trees and scorched countryside have dominated media coverage of the fire.
Heartwarming Moment Amidst the Chaos
In the midst of this emergency, a heartwarming moment was captured on camera by a team of rangers from INFOCA. They shared a video of a fawn being rescued from the fire zone and released back into the woodland. INFOCA’s message alongside the video was a reminder that despite the emergency, life continues to run its course.
Rescued Fawn Resembles Bambi
The Andalucian forest fire emergency service also shared images of the rescued fawn, which bore a striking resemblance to the beloved Disney character, Bambi. The fawn was shown in the arms of its rescuer, safe from the raging fire.
Update on Injured Firefighters
There was also positive news regarding the three firefighters who were reported injured in the early hours of the blaze. Two of them, who suffered light injuries described as ‘smoke inhalation’ while fighting the flames, have now been discharged. The third firefighter, who suffered more serious injuries, including burns to 10% of his body, is said to be improving favourably. He has been transferred out of Intensive Care to a specialist unit.
