Unforeseen Drought in Spain Raises Concerns

In early March, Spain was grappling with a severe drought, particularly at the Casita, where the reservoir was rapidly depleting. The water level had plummeted to an alarming extent by mid-month, resembling the typical end-of-summer scenario.

Water Shortage at Casita Poses Challenges

The drought led to an inability to refill the Casita’s deposit tank, resulting in a water shortage. This situation complicated daily activities, necessitating the transportation of eight-litre water bottles from the coast for washing, cleaning, and flushing.

Recreational Activities Amidst the Drought

The dry lake bed became a playground for 4×4, quad, and motocross enthusiasts, who seized the opportunity to race across it in a ‘Mad Max’ style. However, those who attempted to navigate the fresh mud found themselves stuck, leading to an embarrassing call to the ‘grua’ company and a long wait for a 4×4 tow truck.

Heavy Rainfall Brings Relief and Chaos

When the rain finally arrived, it poured with such intensity that it seemed like a scene from a Wagnerian opera. The downpour was so heavy that it caused a crack in the floor between the bedroom and the kitchen, leading to flooding.

Emergency Measures to Tackle the Flooding

The flooding necessitated immediate action. All items on the floor were hastily thrown onto the bed, and a makeshift sandbag setup was created using the contents of ‘The Chair’, a piece of furniture used for storing clothes and linen.

Aftermath of the Rainfall

Once the flooding was under control, the only untouched area in the bedroom was the bed. However, the relief was short-lived as the resident cat, Fifty Shades, left muddy footprints on the sheet.
