Portugal’s Tax Scheme Attracts British Expats and Spanish Nationals
In light of Spain’s stringent tax regime, which often leaves small business owners and retirees financially strained, a growing number of British expats and Spanish nationals are turning their attention to Portugal. The country’s Non-Habitual Residence (NHR) tax scheme is seen as a potential solution to their financial woes.
Marbella Seminar to Discuss Portugal’s NHR Tax Scheme
On November 25, a seminar in Marbella will delve into the details of Portugal’s NHR tax scheme. The event will feature expert speakers from the Portuguese branches of various financial companies and law firms. The NHR tax scheme offers new foreign residents a virtual tax holiday for their first decade of residency, with pension income taxed at a flat 10% and other passive income, such as dividends, taxed at 0%.
Additional Information on Residency Options and Legal Requirements
The seminar will also provide information on the D7 and Golden Visa residency options. Attendees can expect to receive advice on legal requirements, insurance, and real estate. Companies participating in the event include Sovereign Group, Martinez Echevarria lawyers, C1 Brokers insurance experts, Fine & Country Algarve estate agents, and the Ombria Resort.
Open Media Group’s Role in the Event
The event is being organised by Bruce Hawker, CEO of the Open Media Group, Portugal’s leading publisher of foreign language media. Hawker notes that the event aims to answer questions from individuals interested in relocating to Portugal. He adds that there has been a noticeable increase in interest from Costa del Sol residents, who are drawn to Portugal by the tax benefits.
Living in Portugal Events
Open Media Group regularly holds seminars in Portugal and other countries, including the USA. The Living in Portugal events are run in association with the Algarve Regional Tourism Board and co-financed under the Portugal 2020 EU funding programme.
