Decline in Tourist Apartment Accommodations in Marbella
The number of tourists staying in apartments in Marbella has seen a decrease. Both the arrival of tourists (-11.83%) and overnight stays (-6.40%) in Marbella fell in September, with a significant drop in national data compared to the same period in 2022. The occupancy rate also dropped to 65%, while the average stay slightly increased.
Marbella’s Tourist Apartment Business Faces a Tough Summer
The business of tourist apartments in Marbella, which has been increasingly booming, did not have a good summer this year, at least according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). According to the data released on Monday, both the number of tourists and overnight stays decreased, dragging down the occupancy rate as well.
September’s Tourist Numbers in Marbella
In September, 16,888 visitors who arrived in Marbella chose a tourist apartment, 2,267 fewer than the previous year, a decrease of 11.83%. The data shows a significant drop in domestic visitors (1,452), a 66% decrease, which is timidly offset by the 15,436 foreign visitors, a 4% increase.
Overnight Stays in Tourist Apartments
As for overnight stays in tourist apartments, 99,127 were registered in September, 6.40% less than a year ago (105,899). That’s almost 6,800 fewer nights. The decrease is linked to the significant drop in data provided by domestic tourists (-12,511), while overnight stays by foreign tourists increased (+5,739). The average stay, however, slightly increased to 5.87 days, compared to 5.53 in the same month last year. Occupancy fell to 65.14%, three points less than the same period in 2022 (68.88%).
Employment in Tourist Accommodations
According to the INE, it is estimated that the staff employed in these types of accommodations was 666 people.
Hotels and Apartments in Marbella
If we add those who stayed in hotels (79,839 visitors) and those who opted for tourist apartments (16,888), Marbella welcomed 96,727 tourists in September.
