Marbella Couple Arrested in Cannabis Cafe Raid
In a significant operation on the Costa del Sol, a couple from Marbella were handcuffed and searched as police raided a suspected Amsterdam-style cannabis cafe. The duo were among 20 individuals questioned by officers from the Policia Nacional and Marbella’s Policia Local taskforce. The operation took place at a cafe in San Pedro Alcantara on January 25.
Police Operation Details
The officers managed to gain access to the cafe, cutting off exit routes from the back and breaking down the front entrance. The investigators arrested a man and a woman, both aged 35 and 38 respectively, under suspicion that their cafe was allegedly operating as a drug sales point.
Appearance of the Cafe
The cafe, with tables and chairs scattered outside, appeared to be just another nondescript coffee shop. However, concerned neighbours raised the alarm after noticing an increase in the consumption of narcotic substances in the downtown area of San Pedro Alcantara.
Investigation and Arrests
Upon launching an investigation, the agents detected a high number of individuals who arrived at the premises, accessed the cafe, and left within minutes. The police monitored the vicinity of the property and made several marijuana-related arrests among the regulars at the ‘coffee shop’, confirming their initial suspicions.
Seizures from the Raid
During the raid, the police seized 11 kilos of marijuana, 2,300 grams of hashish, and 2,407 joints. In addition to the drugs, officers also discovered €2,311 in cash and various computer equipment inside the cafe.
Similar Incidents
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. There have been previous instances of illegal marijuana smokehouses posing as “cannabis associations” being busted on Spain’s Costa Blanca. There was also a case of a clandestine cannabis club being shut down on Spain’s Costa Blanca.
