Marbella Police Bust Criminal Gang Linked to Starlite Concert Theft
In a significant breakthrough, the police in Marbella have apprehended a criminal gang believed to be responsible for a daring theft at a Starlite concert last summer. The gang allegedly made off with €70,000 in cash from the safe after the concert of Argentinian pop sensation, Nathy Peluso.
Specialized Criminal Gang Behind Multiple Thefts
The gang is suspected to have specialized in robberies involving forced entry. They are believed to be behind 22 thefts in businesses and homes across the Costa del Sol, including Marbella, Estepona, Mijas, Coin, and Guaro. In a shocking revelation, the gang is also accused of stealing from the offices of the lawyers they had previously hired for their representation.
Modus Operandi: Power Cuts and Disconnection of Surveillance Cameras
The gang’s modus operandi involved cutting the power and disconnecting surveillance cameras, a tactic they employed after the concert. This suggests that they had insider knowledge of the location and a thorough understanding of the security devices used at the festival.
Seven Arrested, Including Starlite Festival Employees
The police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the thefts – five men and two women. Several of the arrested individuals were employees of the Starlite festival. During the police raids, officers seized €20,000 in cash, drugs, and numerous stolen items.
Imprisonment Ordered for Main Suspects
The competent judicial authority has ordered the imprisonment of the three main suspects. The gang’s modus operandi of power cuts and disconnection of surveillance cameras after the concert indicates their specific knowledge of electricity and a comprehensive understanding of the security devices used at the festival.
Marbella Bounces Back as a Holiday Hotspot
Despite the recent criminal activities, Marbella continues to bounce back as a popular holiday destination. The city is home to part-time resident Novak Djokovic, who recently received a health warning from Spain’s PM, Pedro Sanchez. In another development, Joakim Broberg, stepson of Marbella Mayor Angeles Muñoz, has been extradited to Spain over charges of drug trafficking, money laundering, and organized crime.
