Marbella Police Rescue Bull Terrier Trapped for Three Months
In a remarkable act of survival, a bull terrier dog was rescued by Marbella police after enduring three months locked in a storage room without food or water. The dog was found in a severely malnourished and dehydrated state, tethered to a one-meter-long rope.
Man Charged with Animal Abuse
A 36-year-old man has been charged with animal abuse in connection with the incident. He informed the police that the dog’s owner had left Spain 18 months prior. The police were alerted to the situation after receiving a report about an abandoned dog in a small unit attached to a building near Parque de la Represa.
Abandoned Dog Found in Storage Room
Upon interviewing the property owner, the police learned that the dog’s owner had been living illegally in the house and had left months ago, leaving the animal behind in the storage room. The room was locked, leaving the bull terrier with no access to food or water, forcing it to resort to eating its own excrement.
Dog Receives Veterinary Care
The dog was taken to the Association of Friends of Abandoned Animals at Triple A for veterinary care. A check of its microchip confirmed that the dog’s owner was a foreign citizen with a Benalmadena address, whose current location is unknown.
Penalties for Animal Welfare Law Infractions
The police stated that there were several infractions of the new Animal Welfare Law in this case. The penalties for these infractions can be severe, with fines ranging up to €10,000 for minor infractions, €50,000 for serious infractions, and up to €200,000 for very serious infractions.
