First of Four Shootings Solved by National Police
National Police officers have reportedly cracked the first of four shootings that occurred along the Costa del Sol in the past month. Three men, aged between 24 and 31, have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in a shooting incident in Nueva Andalucía on the night of 10 February. The shooting resulted in a young Swedish man being hospitalized after sustaining bullet wounds in his arm and leg.
Shooting Incident: A Result of Rivalry
Investigators believe the shooting was a result of a feud between rival clans in Sweden. The suspects have been charged with alleged attempted murder, as per the provincial police headquarters. Two of the suspects are currently in custody.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The hospitalized man was not the only target that night, investigators reveal. The victim was reportedly with another man when they were approached by a third individual, whose face was concealed under a balaclava. This individual opened fire on them after exiting a vehicle. The two men fled the scene, but only one managed to escape unscathed.
Investigation and Arrests
Upon examining the crime scene, officers found up to nine cartridge cases and seized the weapon allegedly used in the shooting, which was discarded nearby. With the evidence collected, the Malaga provincial police station’s organized crime unit, along with UDYCO officers, continued their investigation until they located the address where the alleged gunman had been hiding. They also identified other suspects who allegedly assisted the shooter with logistics and victim tracking. On 13 March, police raided two houses in Marbella and Alhaurín El Grande, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects.
Seized Items and Court Proceedings
Among the items seized were an ammunition magazine, believed to belong to the pistol used in the attempted murder, and bullets. The arrested men were presented before a judge in Marbella, who ordered two of them to be remanded in prison.
Other Shootings in the Area
Two days after the arrests, local residents alerted the 112 emergency services and National Police about the sound of more alleged gunshots in the same street. However, these shootings could not be confirmed as no shell casings were found at the scene. A little over a week later, more gunshots caused panic in Marbella, this time in Nueva Andalucía. The shots were fired in broad daylight, causing significant damage to a local restaurant, but no injuries were reported.
Recent Gunfire Incidents in Marbella
Just a few days later, Marbella experienced its second shooting of the week. A 20-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot multiple times outside an establishment in the Puerto Banús area. In addition to these incidents, there was also a shooting at the beginning of March, where a 34-year-old man was shot in the leg at the entrance of a nightclub in Fuengirola.
