Marbella’s Lighthouse Revamp Project Gets Green Light
The provincial and port authorities of Malaga have approved a project to refurbish Marbella’s lighthouse and develop the surrounding area for the benefit of the town’s residents. The project, which was of great interest to the local government, was complex due to the ownership of the land by Puertos, as stated by Marbella’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz during a site visit on 12th February.
Project Financed by Malaga’s Provincial Authority
The Diputación de Málaga, Malaga’s provincial authority, is funding the project with nearly one million euros. The plan includes the integration of the 2,300 square metres of land surrounding the lighthouse, connecting it with the promenade and Avenida Antonio Belón.
Additional Features of the Project
The project also encompasses municipal offices, a visitors’ centre, an exhibition space, and expansive gardens. These facilities will be available for use by various groups, associations, and the general public.
Completion Date and Future Plans
According to Mayor Muñoz, the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, transforming the area into a more accessible and enjoyable space for the public. The lighthouse will remain operational, and the surrounding area will feature nearly 1,700 square metres of gardens, adorned with shrubs and large trees, adding another attraction to the town.
Environmentally Conscious Plant Selection
In light of the ongoing drought crisis affecting the Costa del Sol, the plants for the garden are being carefully chosen to ensure they are species that require minimal watering, as stated by Mayor Muñoz.
