Record-Breaking Sushi Roll Created by Chef Carlos Navarro at Charity Event

On Tuesday, 17th December 2024, renowned chef Carlos Navarro, also known as the sushiman, set a new record by creating a 19-metre-long sushi roll at a charity event in Marbella. Specialising in Japanese cuisine, Navarro used six kilos of rice, five kilos of fish including bluefin tuna and wild Alaskan salmon, six kilos of avocado, two kilos of sesame, and a 19-metre long strip of seaweed to create this culinary masterpiece.

Charity Bazaar in Marbella: A Platform for Navarro’s Culinary Feat

The charity bazaar in Marbella, aimed at raising funds for Caritas, has been inviting Navarro to participate for several years. The event was held at the town’s Adolfo Suárez trade fair and congress centre. Navarro, without hesitation, set up a sushi and Japanese fried food stand at the event this year, as he has done in the past. All earnings from his stand will be donated to Caritas.

Navarro’s Unique Tribute to the Charity Event’s 19th Anniversary

In addition to his food stand, Navarro decided to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the charity event in a unique way. He prepared a maki sushi roll that was 19 metres long, matching the number of years the event has been running. The first challenge, according to Navarro, was finding a table long enough to accommodate the sushi roll. Eventually, ten to twelve catering tables were lined up to achieve the desired length.

The Making of the Gigantic Maki: A Complex Process

Once the tables were set, the next step was to lay out the 19-metre strip of seaweed and fill it with rice, fish, and avocado. The most challenging part of creating this gigantic maki was turning it upside down. With the help of five or six people, Navarro managed to carefully flip the sushi roll without it falling apart.

800 Pieces of Sushi Sold for Charity

After the maki was completed, it was wrapped and cut into approximately 800 pieces. These pieces were sold in boxes of six for five euros each, with all proceeds going to the Cáritas charity.
