Marbella Rugby Club Demands New Field from City Hall

The Marbella Rugby Club has once again called on the City Hall for a new field to carry out their sports activities. This request was reiterated during a video shared on social media, reminding Mayor Ángeles Muñoz of her promise made during her visit to the club in June 2022. The mayor had assured them of a new facility that was supposed to be ready by 2023, but as of today, it does not exist.

Club’s Financial Struggles and Lack of Facilities

The club, one of the most important rugby training grounds in Spain, is currently facing a difficult financial situation that threatens its continuity. They have also called for solutions to this issue. In addition, they are dealing with the added problem of lack of facilities. They have been demanding a new field for some time to relieve the current one, which cannot regenerate with so much activity.

Mayor’s Promise Reiterated

On Tuesday, they once again brought this demand to the City Hall and reminded the mayor, through a video, of her promise that they would have the new field by 2023. Specifically, they posted on their social media a statement by Ángeles Muñoz during a visit to the club in June 2022. The mayor had said, “We are looking at the location of another new field for next year, because it is true that they need more facilities that allow them to continue growing.”

Club’s Proposal for New Facility

The Marbella Rugby Club recalls that “two weeks after” that promise, they presented the City Hall with the proposal for the new facility. “Almost two years have passed since then and we have not yet received a response,” they claim. They publicly question, “When will we give the green light to that promised facility?” They also point out that the Sports Delegation has not met with the club since before Christmas. The new councilor, Lisandro Vieytes, is in charge.

Club’s Demand for Solutions

“We demand solutions and will not rest until we get them,” concludes the post on social media. Recently, the club also made public a list of requests to the City Hall, some regarding financial matters and others about facilities. At the beginning of the year, they also demanded the new field and a solution for the payment of the Property Tax (IBI) that is economically suffocating the entity. Therefore, in the first month of the year, they have already made three claim statements, increasing their pressure on the City Hall.
