Local Security Board Meeting in Marbella
The Local Security Board meeting took place on Thursday morning in Marbella, where police forces, local administration, and the central government participated. Commissioner Rando was firm in his statement: “There are currently more national police officers than there have ever been in the history of Marbella”. He sent a clear message: “We will not tolerate any space for impunity, there will be zero tolerance for those who come to our city to commit crimes”.
Effectiveness of the Marbella Plan
The head of the National Police in the municipality stated that the effectiveness of the Marbella Plan, launched on April 11, is being noticed. He pointed out that the current force consists of more than 400 officers, in addition to the recent reinforcements, the number of which he preferred not to quantify. When asked about the mayor’s statements requesting Marbella to be a “priority” for the National Police, he did not want to make any assessments.
Double Strategy: Prevention and Immediate Response
“We continue to work on a dual track, both preventive and immediate response,” he said. “Those who come to Marbella with the intention of committing criminal acts or disturbing public peace will be investigated, arrested if necessary, and brought to the attention of the judicial authority,” he pointed out.
Participation of the Central Government
The Director General of the Sub-delegation of Malaga, Juan Pedro Carnero, represented the central government at the meeting. He highlighted that the Local Security Board is “the appropriate forum to analyze and discuss security issues and establish mechanisms for improvement”. The government representative spoke about what he called the “Costa del Sol Plan”, which has resulted in an increase in personnel “against common crime and organized crime”.
Increased Police Force in Marbella
He stated that police officers from different areas have mainly moved to Marbella, as well as aerial and canine units, which will be further increased during the summer. “I appreciate the constant work that both the National Police and the Civil Guard carry out in a professional exercise to protect our rights and freedoms and ensure citizen security,” added Carnero. He also highlighted the “excellent collaboration” that exists with the Local Police of Marbella. In line with the commissioner’s statement, he also said that “there have never been so many police officers in Marbella”.
Mayor’s Remarks on the Meeting
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, highlighted that the meeting was “very cordial”, in which crime data in the municipality were analyzed. “We are all committed to improving security,” she expressed and added that “Marbella is a first-class tourist city that must also be at the first level of security”. She detailed the effort made by the City Council in the deployment of video surveillance and license plate readers. “They have explained the Costa del Sol Plan and also the crime data, which are very favorable,” she added.
