Isabel Pérez Calls for Public Housing Construction in San Pedro Alcántara
Isabel Pérez, the spokesperson for the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in the Marbella City Council, announced this morning at a press conference in San Pedro Alcántara that her municipal group will present a motion at the next regular plenary session. The motion will request the government team to promote the construction of public housing in San Pedro Alcántara.
High Demand for Public Housing in San Pedro Alcántara
The proposal reflects the high demand for public housing from residents of this part of the municipality, particularly from groups such as young people and workers from certain sectors. In addition to this, the socialist group is calling for the creation of a Municipal Public Housing Office in San Pedro Alcántara, as well as in Marbella, to continuously assess housing needs and effectively manage a sufficient public housing stock in the municipality.
No Immediate Plans for Public Housing in San Pedro Alcántara
The socialist spokesperson pointed out that there are currently no municipal projects for the immediate development of public housing in San Pedro Alcántara, although there are designated plots for this purpose. She highlighted that the Municipal Housing Plan identifies various lands with free and protected housing in process, but none are immediately available, only as a legal reserve for long-term purposes.
Public Housing Shortage in Marbella
Isabel Pérez explained that the lack of public housing remains one of the main shortcomings of the municipality, even after more than 14 years of Ángeles Muñoz’s mayoralty. This is compounded by the great difficulty in accessing affordable and decent housing. The spokesperson recalled that the Socialist Municipal Group has always argued that the City Council should make land available for the construction of public housing and that the institution should be decisively involved in solving this problem.
Importance of the Municipal Housing Plan
She also emphasized the importance of having a document like the Municipal Housing Plan, which should be used to create this type of housing and even improved and implemented to adapt to the real needs of the municipality in this area. Finally, she pointed out that areas with a large population, such as San Pedro Alcántara, are especially in need of housing, particularly public housing, due to the significant difficulties in access.
