Marbella City Council and Malaga Architects’ Association Update Urban Planning Agreement

The Urban Planning Department of Marbella City Council and the Malaga Architects’ Association have signed an addendum this Friday to update their 2019 agreement in line with the new urban planning legislation of Andalusia (LISTA). The aim of the agreement is to expedite the processing of licenses for single-family homes, multi-family homes, and hotel establishments.

Increased Urban Planning Reports by 40 Percent

According to the Marbella City Council, this agreement has resulted in a 40 percent increase in urban planning reports issued in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, rising from 2,036 last year to 2,895 this year. It has also issued half of the total equivalent to the total of the previous year.

Collaboration Between Public and Private Sectors

Susana Gómez de Lara, Dean of the Malaga Architects’ Association, highlighted the collaboration of the City Council in daring to embark on this pioneering experience in the province of Malaga and even in Andalusia. She also pointed out that they signed the addendum today to adapt it to what the LISTA includes, where one of the important issues for processing and expediting licenses is public-private collaboration.

Boost in Visa Applications

Gómez de Lara also emphasized the increase achieved according to recent quarterly data, which shows a boost in the application of this type of visa. She affirmed that they will try to make it even greater, if possible, on the occasion of today’s signing.

50 Percent of All 2023 Reports Issued from January to April 2024

Mayor Ángeles Muñoz detailed that from January to April 2024, the equivalent of 50 percent of all 2023 reports, where the total was 5,779, would have already been issued. She recalled that the signing of this agreement, ratified in early May 2019, established an urban qualification visa by the body to ensure that the documentation submitted when applying for an urban license is in accordance with the law.

Common Goal to Shorten Deadlines

“The common goal is to shorten the deadlines and practically immediately, within a period of three or four months, issue these permits for single-family homes, multi-family homes, hotel establishments, and everything related to this specific area,” she pointed out.

Expanding the Agreement for the Benefit of All

“We are now expanding the agreement with this addendum with the aim of benefiting all those people who decide to come to Marbella or who have the opportunity to apply for a license to have, in the shortest possible time, that life project, because many bet on our city for it,” she explained.
