Marbella City Council Allocates Over 4 Million Euros to Support Public Interest Initiatives

Félix Romero and Enrique Rodríguez announced in a press conference this morning that the Marbella City Council will allocate over 4 million euros this year to support organizations, projects, and activities of public interest. This will be done through the Strategic Grant Plan. The majority of the funds, according to the governing team, will be allocated to social spending. There are more than 80 lines of action, most of which are in agreements.

Details of the Strategic Grant Plan

Enrique Rodríguez, the Councilor for Citizen Participation, reported in the Local Government Board meeting held today about the update of the lines and areas of action. He also informed about the projected budget, 59.15 percent of which will be allocated to social spending. Rodríguez emphasized that the aim of this planning is to “organize and normalize the aid policy to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency in the allocation of resources”. He stressed that “the purpose is to improve the quality and transparency of our processes, thus strengthening the trust and participation of all citizens”.

Breakdown of the 2024 Budget

Rodríguez detailed that the total amount for 2024 will amount to 4,093,239 euros, distributed in 80 lines of action. “The areas of action range from the promotion and social care to the promotion of citizen participation, through the revitalization of the local economy, cultural promotion, environmental sustainability, and support for sports and healthy lifestyle habits,” he explained.

Grant Allocation Process

The grant allocation process will be carried out through various modalities, including 52 through agreements, 20 by calls for competition, and 8 through award calls. Apart from social spending, which accounts for almost 60 percent of the total budget, 11.07 percent will be allocated to employment promotion and support for businesses and productive sectors, followed by 11.11 percent to the cultural and educational field.

Support for Popular Traditions and Environmental Protection

“We also give special importance to the support of popular traditions, with 7.30 percent, and to the protection of the environment and sustainability, with 3.62 percent,” Rodríguez said. Support for citizen participation accounts for 2.81 percent of the assigned funds; the promotion of sports, 3.22 percent, and programs aimed at youth represent 1.37 percent of the total Strategic Grant Plan.
