Marbella Carnival 2024 Kicks Off with a Tribute to Paco “El Butano”
The Marbella Carnival 2024 began on Saturday with a posthumous tribute to Francisco Blanco Suárez, known as Paco “El Butano”. He was one of the key figures in establishing this festival in the city and a co-founder of the Carnival Association. The event also saw the naming of Venus, Nymphs, and God Momo, and the presentation of the golden shield.
Marbella Begins to Enjoy its Carnival 2024
Marbella started to enjoy its Carnival 2024 on Saturday, which will run until February 17 with various activities, including the group competition. The inaugural event took place at the municipal theater, which the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, did not attend this time with no elections in sight.
Posthumous Tribute to Francisco Blanco Suárez, Known as Paco “El Butano”
The evening began with a unique proclamation in which one of the main promoters of this festival in the city was honored. A tribute was paid posthumously to Francisco Blanco Suárez, known as Paco “El Butano”, who was remembered through a video that reviewed his life.
Paco “El Butano” Organized the First Carnival Parade in Marbella
Paco “El Butano” organized the first carnival parade in Marbella with the Mari Tere Maldonado dance academy, the only one that existed at the time. His first group was “Trajano and his hilarious Romans” and later he was part of “The crazy people of bicycles”, where he met Francisco “Curro” Román, with whom he founded the Marbellí Carnival Cultural Association.
Golden Shield Awarded to Carnival Participant Francisco Javier Cerván Jiménez
After the images were projected, former group members made a compilation dusting off some of the lyrics of the time. To conclude, a memory was also given to his children, David and Sacramento, who thanked the memory of their father. From there, the golden shield was presented to the carnival participant Francisco Javier Cerván Jiménez.
Curro Román Honored for His Dedication as President of the Carnival Association
Curro Román received a tribute for his dedication as president of the Carnival Association, which also introduced new members of the board. Then, the bands were imposed on the Nymphs (Mercedes Tejero Macías and Sanaa Amhouco), Venus (Inmaculada Rodríguez Macías) and God Momo (Antonio Sánchez Urdiales).
Marbella Carnival 2024 Ends with Performances from Various Groups
To conclude the night in a big way, it was time for the groups. First, the four from Marbella. The first to take the stage were the members of the comparsa “La Joya”, directed by Antonio “Nono” Quiñones and with lyrics and music by Andrés Benítez García. Then came the quartet “This year we go out by the hair”, directed by Isaac Morilla. The comparsa “The Refugees”, by Paco Parra and Javier Carmona, performed third, and the chirigota “Better I shut up”, by Jesús Ruiz and Rafa Romero, closed. The closure, already at dawn, was put by one of the most important groups of Cádiz as is “Los Carapapas” with the anthology “The Squad”.
