Marbella Honors Women’s Contributions on International Women’s Day
On Friday, March 8, Marbella celebrated International Women’s Day with an official ceremony. The event recognized two organizations and eight local women for their contributions to gender equality. However, the far-right political faction did not participate in the commemorations.
Event Held at Hospital Real de la Misericordia
The ceremony took place at the Hospital Real de la Misericordia. For the first time in the Marbella City Council’s history, there was a break in political unity in favor of equality. This year, the two representatives from Vox refused to support the manifesto and all the events that were called.
Other Political Groups Show Support
The rest of the municipal groups, including PP, PSOE, and OSP, did show their support for policies in favor of women. Journalist Concha Montes read the manifesto, stating that ensuring the rights of women and girls in all areas of life is the only way to ensure sustainable development alongside an egalitarian society.
Addressing Key Issues
The text also addresses issues such as the wage gap, gender violence, and corporate and social co-responsibility. It calls for greater involvement from the male population in domestic and care tasks, with the ultimate goal of continuing to advance towards equality.
Recognizing Contributions to Gender Equality
Two organizations and eight local women were recognized for their contributions to gender equality. Mayor Ángeles Muñoz stated that the City Council is leading this fight with proactive policies and positive actions that help advance this goal.
Individuals and Organizations Honored
The educational community of the Victoria Kent Institute and the Corte Inglés Costa Marbella Shopping Center were recognized for their commitment to equality. On a personal level, Concha Montes García, María Barranco García, María Dolores Sánchez Villodres, Mercedes Casas Rodríguez, María Felisa González Bautista, Francisca Pérez Rodríguez, Charo Moreno Ortega, and posthumously, Mariví Serrano Martínez, were honored.
