Government Subdelegate Calls for Speedy Urbanization of Marbella Police Station Site
The Government Subdelegate in Malaga, Javier Salas, has urged the Marbella City Council to expedite the urbanization of the land where the new police station is planned to be built. He stated that the Ministry of Interior has allocated a budget of 10 million euros for this purpose. Salas also expressed his gratitude for the work of the officers in the municipality.
Subdelegate’s Visit to Marbella Police Station
This morning, the Government Subdelegate visited the Marbella police station and held a meeting with the Provincial Chief Commissioner of Operations, Roberto Rodríguez, and the local commissioner, José Manuel Rando. In the subsequent press conference, he addressed various issues, including the need for new facilities for the National Police in the municipality.
Land and Budget for New Police Station
Salas stated that the government already has the land, donated by the municipality, and a budget of “ten million euros”. The known issue is that the La Torrecilla Estate, where the new police station is to be located, is not urbanized and lacks access, issues that the City Council must resolve.
Call for Action from the Mayor
In this regard, Salas has called for “speed” from the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, urging her to “get to work and take an interest in the security” of the municipality. Salas emphasized that the new police station is “an absolute priority” for the government and asked the mayor not to “distract” with the offer of land in San Pedro Alcántara. “Let’s go step by step,” he said.
Appreciation for National Police Officers
The Subdelegate expressed his “appreciation for the work” of the National Police officers in ensuring that Marbella “continues to be a safe city and a benchmark for international tourism”. He highlighted the implementation of the Marbella-Costa del Sol Plan on April 11, following the latest shootings, which represents an extraordinary reinforcement of personnel in Marbella.
Additional Reinforcements and Decrease in Crime Rate
Salas also announced that the Ministry of Interior will soon announce a new extraordinary reinforcement for the Summer Plan and the Safe Tourism Plan, which will “provide more officers” in the municipality. He emphasized that the conventional crime rate in Marbella has decreased by 7%. He also congratulated the officers for the dismantling of an international criminal organization based in Marbella that was transporting drugs to Germany.
