Government Subdelegate Expresses Discontent with Marbella Mayor’s Statements

Javier Salas, the Government Subdelegate in Malaga, expressed his disagreement this morning with the statements made by the Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, last Monday. He asked for “respect” for the National Police and their work in response to the shootings and reminded her that investigations are confidential and led by judges.

Upcoming Local Security Board Meeting Expected to be Heated

Next week, a Local Security Board meeting will take place between the City Council and the Government Sub-delegation. The meeting is expected to be heated with a prior exchange of statements.

Government Subdelegate Responds to Mayor’s Comments

If last Monday the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, was deflecting blame for the recent shootings onto the National Police, today the Government Subdelegate responded. Javier Salas stated that the mayor “has disrespected the men and women of the National Police who risk their lives every day to protect the residents of Marbella”. He demanded “a public apology” to the officers who do their job “with the utmost professionalism and dedication”.

Government Representative Criticizes Mayor’s Statements

The Government representative in Malaga described Muñoz’s statements, in which she asked for Marbella to be a priority for the National Police, as “unpresentable and unworthy”. According to Salas, the municipality is already “a priority” for the officers, who have the “unwavering support” of the Spanish Government.

Mayor’s Request for Information on Shootings Deemed Impossible

Muñoz also asked for information on the shootings to be shared with the City Council, an idea that the Government Subdelegate considers impossible. “A mayor of a city like Marbella should know that these are confidential investigations and directed by the judicial authority”, he explained.

Socialist Group Spokesperson Comments on Wave of Shootings

Isabel Pérez, the spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group, also commented on the wave of shootings this morning. She spoke of “pulling together” to make Marbella safer. She highlighted that “more police are going to come to the municipality”, referring to the Marbella Plan, and pointed out that there is an “exceptional situation with problems related to the mafias”.
