Football Stars Tournament to be Named After Enrique Moreno

The Football Stars Tournament is set to return this year with a new name as its main novelty. The competition, scheduled to take place at the end of May, will be named after the recently deceased journalist, Enrique Moreno. The local council aims to pay a posthumous tribute to a journalist who was always involved in local sports news.

Posthumous Tribute to Local Sports Journalist Enrique Moreno

The Football Stars Tournament will return this year, and this edition will pay a posthumous tribute to local sports journalist Enrique Moreno. The council wants to honor our colleague from RTV Marbella, who recently passed away, by naming the competition after him. He was greatly involved and charismatic in all local sports, especially football, where he was much loved and respected by all city entities, said Mayor Ángeles Muñoz. In this way, his memory will be linked to grassroots football and will be a way to honor his contribution, after 25 years of professional work, to our municipality, she added.

Moreno’s Dedication and Love for the Sport

Moreno stood out for his dedication and love for this sport, said Councilor Lisandro Vieytes, who also highlighted that this initiative will allow us, once we reinstate this tournament, to recognize his work for grassroots football every year. The competition, which will be held at the end of May at the city’s sports facilities, is expected to bring together about 2,000 participants from different clubs in the municipality in its various categories.

Joint Management by the City Council and the Royal Andalusian Football Federation

This will be the culmination of the regular league, which this year, as a novelty, is jointly managed by the City Council and the Royal Andalusian Football Federation, emphasized the delegate. This has meant taking a step further in the professionalization of the local championship and offering young footballers the chance to gradually adapt to the competition, with the aim that as they progress they are used to playing official matches, Vieytes pointed out.

Revival of the ‘Football Stars Enrique Moreno’ Tournament

Regarding the ‘Football Stars Enrique Moreno’ tournament, we are reviving it, after the last edition was in 2021, with the aim of making it once again the great celebration of grassroots football in our city, he stressed.
