23rd Edition of the Marbella City Duathlon to be Held in San Pedro Alcántara
San Pedro Alcántara will host the 23rd edition of the Marbella City Duathlon this coming Sunday, February 18th. The event is expected to attract 500 runners.
Two Races to be Held, Including One for Minors
There will be two races, one for adults starting at 9 am, and another as part of the Andalusian Circuit for Minors, starting at 11 am. The races were announced today by Lisandro Vieytes, the councilor for sports, and Maite Caño, representative of the Marbella Triathlon Club.
Competitors from Junior to Veteran Categories Expected
The event will bring together athletes from junior to veteran categories in the first race, and young competitors in the Andalusian Circuit for Minors in the second race. Vieytes noted that the event is well-established and continues to grow each year. He highlighted the inclusion of a category for paratriathletes, which will feature, among other athletes, Javier Mérida, head of the municipal delegation in San Pedro.
First Duathlon Race to Start at Barcelona Street
The first duathlon race will start at Barcelona Street, in front of the Nueva Alcántara Tennis and Paddle Club, at 9 am. It will consist of a 5,000-meter run on the San Pedro Promenade, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and another 2,500-meter run in the vicinity of the promenade.
Second Race Part of the Andalusian Duathlon Circuit for Minors
The second race, starting at 11 am, will count towards the Andalusian Duathlon Circuit for Minors, with categories ranging from prebenjamines to juveniles.
Marbella Triathlon Club Grateful for City Council Support
Maite Caño expressed her gratitude for the city council’s support in making the duathlon possible once again, highlighting the resources made available to them. She also extended her appreciation to the volunteers who will be present at the race.
Long-Standing Race Made Possible by Club and Promenade
Finally, Mérida emphasized that the race has a long history and is made possible by the involvement of the club and the opportunities provided by the Promenade. He noted that the course is accessible for athletes who are just starting out, as well as for more experienced competitors.
