Marbella Town Hall Approves Beach Bylaw
In a recent council meeting held on Friday, 10th May, Marbella town hall gave the green light to a bylaw that will regulate the use of its 25 beaches. The new legislation aims to reclaim approximately 11,500 square metres of beach space for the public’s use this summer. This will be achieved by limiting the area available for sunbeds and water activities.
Beaches Affected by the New Bylaw
The new regulation will primarily impact the beaches of Nueva Andalucía, Puerto Banús, Casablanca, Fontanilla, La Venus, El Pinillo, Alicate, La Víbora, Las Chapas and Cabopino. The bylaw was introduced in response to the needs of the citizens and aims to enhance safety, improve tourism, free up space, raise awareness, regulate customer service and curb misuse, according to Diego López, the councillor for the area.
Details of the New Bylaw
López further elaborated that the bylaw consists of 73 articles which govern various aspects such as the use of showers and footbaths to encourage water conservation, private beach events, swimming and weather conditions, lifeguard and rescue services, beach ‘campfires’ throughout the year, noise pollution, cleanliness and hygiene. It also regulates camping, signposting, beach bars, kiosks and terraces, as well as the sale of drinks and food, opening hours, accessibility and sports including water sports.
Implementation of the New Bylaw
The new bylaw will not be implemented immediately. There will be a period of time allocated for the dissemination of information regarding the different aspects it covers. This is to ensure that the public is well-informed about the changes and can adapt accordingly.
