Marino Villar’s Challenging Weekend at the Spanish Championship
Marino Villar had a tough weekend during his participation in the second round of the Spanish Elite Motocross Championship held in Lugo. The Marbella-born rider had to contend with adverse weather conditions and various setbacks on his motorcycle that prevented him from finishing the first race.
13th Position in Second Race and Top-15 in General Classification
In the second race, Villar managed to finish in 13th position, securing a spot in the top-15 of the general classification. The rider had travelled to Galicia to participate in the second round of the Spanish Elite Motocross Championship (MX1, MX2 and 125 cc) at the Motopark Lugo circuit, owned by the current MXGP world champion, Jorge Prado.
Adverse Weather Conditions and Schedule Changes
The adverse weather forecast for Sunday forced the RFME to bring forward all races to Saturday, completely changing the schedule and forcing the riders to compete in rain, mud and cold. It was a tough race for the young Marbella rider who, in addition to facing a circuit he had never ridden before, had to deal with several mechanical and piloting setbacks, as well as bad luck, which made him struggle until the end.
Qualifying Race and Mechanical Setbacks
In the qualifying race, Villar managed to clock the 12th best time but encountered several significant setbacks that left him with no option but to withdraw from the race. After a good start, where he placed fifth, he noticed something was wrong with his bike and had to stop. After realizing he had lost the wheel axle nut, he had to retire, finishing in 32nd position.
Second Race and Fight for Positions
Once the bike was repaired, Villar was able to participate in the second race. He had a good start, in 10th position, but right at the beginning, the roll-off system of his goggles got stuck, preventing him from seeing through the mud. He practically had to stop, which put him in last position. However, he did not give up and fought lap after lap, climbing positions. Midway through the race, he suffered a fall and ended up in a water-filled ditch, from which he had a hard time getting out, falling back again; but he put all his effort and kept fighting.
Despite Setbacks, Villar Secures 14th Position in Championship
Later, when he was in 19th position, he got caught in a rut with a slower rider, causing him to lose a few seconds. Even so, he did not give up and managed to finish in a commendable 13th place. Despite all this, Marino Villar managed to enter the top-15 of the provisional general classification of this championship, moving up to 14th place.
