Body of Tortured Man Found in Marbella Tourist Apartment
The body of a man was discovered in a tourist rental apartment in Marbella by the property manager. The manager had grown concerned after several days without contact from the guest and decided to check on the property. Upon receiving no response to their knocks, they peered through the window and were met with a chilling sight – a man bound to a chair.
Victim Identified as Serbian Citizen with German Residency
Upon arrival, National Police officers identified the victim as 33-year-old Aleksander K., a Serbian national with German residency. The man had been brutally tortured and executed, with three gunshot wounds to his head. The gruesome discovery was made on June 30, 2022.
Arrest Made Two Years After the Murder
Two years following the murder, the case has been resolved with the arrest of the alleged perpetrator. The suspect is a 32-year-old Turkish national holding a German passport, who is currently incarcerated in a Spanish prison.
Investigation Reveals Links to Organised Crime
Investigations by special drug and organised crime units, Udyco and the Greco-Costa del Sol, suggest that the deceased had arranged a meeting in his apartment with one or more members of a drug trafficking organisation, to which the arrested man is believed to be connected. Both the victim and the suspect reportedly have criminal records for drug trafficking, with the latter also allegedly involved in arms trafficking.
Victim Tortured for Hours, Possibly Days
For reasons yet to be determined, the meeting resulted in Aleksander K. being gagged, bound to a chair, and subjected to hours, possibly days, of torture. When his body was discovered, he was still tied up, with his head wrapped in plastic film.
International Collaboration Leads to Arrest
The identification of the main suspect was made possible through collaboration between Spanish and German authorities. An International Arrest Warrant was issued by the Marbella Investigating Court number 3 against the suspect, who was subsequently located and arrested in Turkey. The suspect was deported from Istanbul and escorted by police from Malaga Airport to the duty court in Malaga city.
Suspect Remanded in Custody
Upon arrival, the suspect was remanded in custody on suspicion of homicide and other unspecified crimes. The case has been deferred to the Marbella court for further judicial proceedings.
