French Fugitive Arrested in Spain

A fugitive, previously sentenced to 20 years in prison in France for kidnapping and murder, has been apprehended by Spanish police on the Costa del Sol. The suspect had managed to escape during a police transfer in France, taking advantage of the absence of his shackles. He had been hiding in Marbella, where he was finally captured following a police chase.

Marbella Police Spot Suspicious Activity

Officers from the Marbella Local Police station were conducting their routine duties when they noticed a suspicious manoeuvre by the now arrested man, who was driving a vehicle. The police officers commanded him to halt, but the suspect not only disregarded their orders but also sped away from the scene, triggering a police chase, according to police sources.

Resisting Arrest and False Identification

After being intercepted, the suspect allegedly resisted arrest, forcing the officers to use an electronic stun gun to immobilise him. He also presented a counterfeit French identification card. Consequently, members of the National Police force took over the investigation to ascertain the suspect’s real identity.

International Cooperation Reveals Criminal History

Through international cooperation, police officers discovered that the suspect had two convictions in France for kidnapping and murder, with sentences totalling up to 20 years. He also had a European arrest warrant issued against him by the French authorities.

Escape Aided by Third Parties

The suspect allegedly used a police transfer in France, during which he was not shackled, to escape from the officers guarding him. It is believed that he was assisted by third parties who were waiting for him in a car. Since then, he has been evading justice.

Charges and Imprisonment

Following his arrest on the Costa del Sol, the suspect was handed over to the courts in Marbella. He faces charges of forgery and assaulting a police officer, in addition to the arrest warrant against him. Spain’s Audiencia Nacional high court has ordered his imprisonment.
