Specsavers Fuengirola partners with beach clean-up group to recycle old and unwanted glasses

Specsavers Ópticas Fuengirola and Mi Moana Team Up for Spectacle Collection Initiative

In a collaborative effort with their sponsor, Specsavers Ópticas Fuengirola, the Mi Moana beach clean-up organisation has announced that they will now be accepting donations of old or unwanted spectacles. These glasses will be collected in a box at their events on the Costa del Sol.

Donated Glasses to Benefit La Cala Lions Club’s Recycle for Sight Programme

The collected glasses will be donated to the La Cala Lions Club as part of their Recycle for Sight Programme. The glasses will then be sent to those who need them the most. Once donated, the glasses are transported to the Lions Club’s recycling plant in Alicante where they are graded according to prescription strength, cleaned, and boxed for distribution.

Specsavers Ópticas Fuengirola’s Longstanding Commitment to Collecting Glasses

Specsavers Ópticas Fuengirola has been collecting glasses in-store since 2007. Last year, they donated 1,800 pairs of glasses to the La Cala Lions. With the growing demand for glasses, they sought a way to make it easier for people to donate their old glasses. Their longstanding sponsorship of the environmental charity Mi Moana provided the opportunity to offer a collection point at their events.

Next Beach Clean-Up Event to Launch Collection Initiative

The Mi Moana team will be holding their next event at the Fuengirola T-Pier, on Saturday 25 May from 11am to 1pm. This event will also mark the launch of the glasses collection initiative. Mi Moana is encouraging as many people as possible to participate in this beach clean-up.

Donating Old Spectacles: A Small Act with Big Impact

David Bradshaw, a representative from the initiative, emphasized that donating old spectacles can significantly change lives in areas where people desperately need access to glasses. This initiative not only provides the gift of sight to someone who doesn’t normally have access to eye care, but also promotes recycling and reduces waste.

How to Donate Your Old Glasses

Specsavers Ópticas Fuengirola, located on Avenida Ramόn Y Cajal 6 (near the bus station), is accepting donations of old glasses during opening hours. For more information about Specsavers Ópticas Fuengirola, including location and opening times, or to schedule a free eye test, visit specsavers.es.
